Weekend Fitness for everyone
So, you’ve recently started a training plan and have been working at regularly exercising during the week. But what happens on the weekend? Do you stick to the same routine or do you find fun alternatives to add to your weekend fitness plan?
Weekends are usually the time for friends, family and socialising, and there is no reason you can’t still stay active, even if you’re not hitting the gym.
Try incorporating some fun, active group fitness activities on the weekend – a great way to destress and bond with friends and family. Changing up your workout routine can be beneficial, by working different muscle groups at different rates and intensity levels than your usual Monday to Friday workout regime.
TAKE IT OUTDOORS
Spending time outside can elevate your mood, by connecting with nature and getting some much-needed sunshine – just don’t forget the sunblock and stay hydrated!

GROUP ACTIVITIES
Get your friends together for a weekly game, or a join sports group. Social activities are great for fitness and for meeting new people.
> Consider action sports, join a padel league, paintball, take up an endurance sport or martial arts just to name a few great group activities.
PLAN AN OUTING
There is a myriad of fun activities to do on a weekend. Why not be a tourist in your own city and explore places you have never been to before, and get a new appreciation for the area in which you live?
Getting out for the day is a great way to get your step count up for the day, and improve your fitness level on a weekly basis.
> Visit the beach, spend a few hours at the park, take a trip to the zoo, wander around a famer’s market, visit a theme park for the day or go to a museum.
TRY SOMETHING NEW
Combining a physical activity with the mental workout of learning something new is great for body and mind. Not only is there the exercise benefit, but learning a new skill boosts cognitive function too.
> Visit a climbing gym or a trampoline park, do a few rounds of adventure golf, go to an ice skating or roller-skating rink.
The weekend is the time to rest, recharge and destress – so make the most of your time off. Stay active, make some new friends and memories, challenge your body and your brain!
